Intern Diary: Amariah
Reflecting on my time as a PR intern at JMG, I feel incredibly thankful for everything I’ve learned and accomplished. From the moment I discovered the company on Instagram, I knew it was where I wanted to grow my skills. The engaging, educational content on their feed was my go-to for understanding the creative yet professional side of public relations. It quickly became clear to me that JMG’s approach to PR aligned perfectly with my own interests and career goals.
When I first interviewed with Jenna, I remember feeling a little unsure about my qualifications, especially with no internship experience. But Jenna’s warm demeanor and professionalism immediately made me feel comfortable. She gave me the opportunity to work with a remarkable team that not only challenged me but also helped me develop my leadership and responsibility. From day one, Alyssa, my supervisor, was a huge support in guiding me through my internship. She helped me balance my internship tasks with my demanding school schedule and taught me essential PR skills, including media list research, press clippings, and how to approach pitch angles creatively—a skill I initially struggled with. Her constructive feedback was invaluable, especially when I encountered challenges, and she always encouraged me to push my boundaries.
One of my favorite things about JMG PR was the company culture. I looked forward to my morning meetings with Alyssa, where I could clarify any questions, and the “Sip the Tea” sessions, which were both fun and educational. These moments developed my strong sense of connection with the team, where they made me feel like I wasn’t just an intern but part of the company. It also gave me a chance to discuss strategies and challenges in a more casual setting, helping me apply my learning to pop culture.
The variety of tasks I worked on, from email pitching to writing pitches and press releases, helped me refine my PR skills and gave me a deeper understanding of securing press coverage. I was also fortunate to work with clients across a range of industries, which helped me expand my knowledge of PR’s many facets and clarified with areas I want to focus on in the future.
Looking back on my time at JMG PR, I am beyond grateful for the experience. It has confirmed my passion for public relations and helped me gain a clearer understanding of how dynamic public relations can be. I’m thankful to Alyssa, Jenna, and the entire team for their guidance and support, which made this internship so memorable. It wasn’t just about completing tasks but about growth and learning.
I’m excited to carry these skills into my future career in PR and will always cherish the experience I gained during my time with the JMG team.
